"The Service of Love is the
fundamental meaning of every vocation"
(
John Paul II)

"In a certain sense, vocation defines the
deepest being of the Church even before her work…
she is truly an assembly of those called."
(
In Verbo Tuo)

This page focuses initially on three people called to the specific vocations of diocesan priesthood and permanent diaconate.
It will develop to include reflections on calls to other vocations, including marriage and single life.

Phil Harris (formerly Director of Music at St Peter's, Winchester) is a student for the priesthood at the English College in Rome.
Please pray for him and fellow student James Macauley who were ordained deacons on Sunday 12th July in Rome by Bishop Crispian.

Steve Roach is a student for the priesthood at St John's Seminary, Wonersh.
He spent the year September 2008-June 2009 on pastoral placement in our parish and will keep in touch through reflections on these pages.
Please pray for him as he continues his formation.

Gerard Dailly has spent the past four years in formation for the permanent diaconate.
He was ordained by Bishop Crispian on Sunday 28th June, 3.00pm at St John's Cathedral, Portsmouth.
Please pray for him and his family.

The Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI has called a special 'Year for Priests' which will run from
19 June 2009 to 19 June 2010.
This year marks the 150th anniversary of the death of the saintly 'Cure of Ars', Jean Marie Vianney, a true example of a pastor at the service of Christ's flock.
