Rite of Ordination

The candidates were called and formally presented to Bishop Crispian.
Their wives were asked whether they were willing for their husbands to undertake the ministry of deacon.
Then followed Election by the Bishop and Consent of the People.

In his homily, Bishop Crispian preached about the office of deacon.

Gerard, John and Peter stood before the Bishop who questioned them about their intention and willingness to undertake the office of deacon.

Then they knelt before the Bishop, placed their hands between his and promised respect and obedience to him and his successors.

During the Litany of Saints, the candidates lay face down on the floor as a sign of surrender to the Lord.
With the whole Church, we asked Our Lady and all the Saints to join with us in praying for the men about to be ordained.

The candidates knelt before the Bishop. In silence, he laid hands on their heads.

With his hands extended over the candidates, Bishop Crispian prayed the Prayer of Consecration.

After the prayer, the newly-ordained deacons were invested with a deacon's stole and dalmatic.

Vested as deacons, they knelt before the Bishop, who placed the Book of the Gospels in their hands.

The Bishop gave the kiss of peace to the new deacons. Other deacons welcomed them to the diaconate, and the new deacons then greeted their families.
